US Plutocracy in Action

What is happening in the US?
Something is terribly wrong in the US right now, terribly wrong.
When did economical and political abuse of the poor, the working / middle class of the US become so blatantly acceptable?
When did verbal abuse of the economical needs of the poor, the working / middle class become so blatantly acceptable?
What is happening in the US?
On December 1, the upcoming House Speaker designate and 42 other signed a letter that can only be viewed as a coup de tat.  In the letter they threatened and subsequently enacted a shutdown of the legislative branch of our government – “we will not agree to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to any legislative item until the Senate has acted”.  This coup de tat has been completed with little or no opposition.
What does this coup de tat accomplish?  It begins the journey of the Unites states from a democracy to a plutocracy.  The upcoming House Speaker designate and his 42 colleagues are holding the United States of America hostage on behalf of their sole constituents – the wealthiest 2% of US Americans. They are holding the United States of America hostage to ensure tax cuts for their sole constituents - the wealthiest 2% of Americans.
At the bequest of their sole constituents – the wealthiest 2% of the US – the coup de tat has stopped the movement of government.  They have delayed a vote on food for low-income children (too expensive), unemployment benefits (too expensive), disbanded the US House Committee on climate change (too expensive).  The DREAM act is threatened to be blocked – does this group of people not understand that all US citizens are immigrants or the offspring of immigrants?  A vote for tax cuts for the working and middle class – who have been hurt the most and continue to be hurt the most by this recession – was referred to as “chicken crap” by the upcoming House Speaker designate.  They lied to our President.
YET they insist that the wealthiest top 2% of US Americans (the sole constituents of the upcoming House Speaker designate and 42 colleagues) be able to keep a tax cut that was set to expire on 12/31.  A tax cut - to the wealthiest 2% -  a tax cut that over the next ten years will cost the US people 600 BILLION dollars (that number is before interest because we will have to borrow the money to pay for the tax cut to the wealthiest 2%.)  A tax cut that over the past ten years has produced NO jobs.  A tax cut that when compared to other alternatives is the worst way to stimulate job growth (Government Accounting Office).  A tax cut that does nothing but transfer more wealth to the wealthiest people of the United States of America – who by the way are the sole constituents of the upcoming House Speaker designate and his 42 colleagues.
On Dec 2 the Deficit Commission released their proposal (the so-called "Moment of Truth") for reducing the deficit.  A thorough examination of the proposal shows that over the long-term this proposal transfers even more wealth to the extremely wealthy and hurts the middle and working class the most.  Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) commented on the Deficit Commission proposal that  "The middle class did not benefit from the Republican economic policies that led to the current deficit -- they were the victims," Schakowsky told reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday. "They should not be called upon to pick up the tab."
The one thing that is most disturbing about the events of this week is that
No one with the power to make things happen has stood up for the 98% and said – ENOUGH!
No one with the power to make things happen has stood up for the 98% of the electorate that are not the wealthiest.
No one with the power to make things happen has come in front of a camera and said “THIS IS WRONG.”
  • By doing nothing and saying nothing, the other Leaders of this country are dismissing the needs of the poor, middle and working classes (the 98%).
  • By doing nothing and saying nothing, the other Leaders of this country they are telling us (the 98%) that we do not count and our vote is not important.
  • By doing nothing and saying nothing, the other Leaders of this country make it clear that the poor, middle and working classes (the 98%) have been thrown under the bus, and that's ok.
  • By doing nothing and saying nothing, the other Leaders of this country are letting the rest of the world think that the upcoming House Speaker designate and his 42 colleagues represent the United States – and THEY DO NOT!
By doing nothing and saying nothing, the other Leaders of this country are condoning the actions of the upcoming House Speaker designate and his 42 colleagues, actions that have shut down the movement of our legislative branch,  actions which has changed the focus of our government to serve their sole constituents – the wealthiest 2% of US citizens.

By doing nothing and saying nothing, the other Leaders of this country are letting democracy slip into non-existence (one compromise at a time), letting plutocracy becomes the norm and destroying any hope left for the 98%.

Something in the United States is terribly wrong –
and I don’t know if it can be fixed
and I’m incredibly sad.

And I’m done blogging for this week -  Enough of this shit!
To the upcoming House Speaker designate and his 42 colleagues:

  • Your beliefs are not my beliefs
  • Your actions do NOT represent me
  • I did NOT give you any kind of mandate
  • I do not condone your actions
  • Your actions disgust me
  • Your arrogance disgusts me
  • I find your behavior despicable and immoral – SHAME ON YOU!
  • I pray that “your God” will bring you to justice as he /she sees fit
