ALEC: For-Profit Environmental Destruction

We often wonder why our energy policies are going down the toilet.

Well, when you take a look at the
Energy Task Force of the ALEC
Task Force Committee Roster as of 6/30/2011
as found on the Common Cause Webpage – you get a pretty good idea why our energy policies are going to hell in a hand basket at the state and federal levels and the reason is the American Legislative Exchange Council corporate profit sector members manipulating energy legislation through ALEC “model” legislation.

The roster shows that there are 233 members.
A recent review of the roster shows that 138 of the members are ALEC legislators.

Then you have 95 environmental antagonists on the task force:

Climate denying ALEC “we work for the profit sector” nonprofit members

US of ALEC - BecauseICan

Direct Quote:

1992 Annual Report of the American Legislative Exchange Council

ALEC has proven that government can and should be for people, not government.

And that ideas, not politicians, govern America.

ALEC's record of success proves that ideas combined with action produces results.

IDEAS, based on fundamental American principles.

Action, from the efforts of 2,500 pro-free enterprise state legislators, representing more than 63 million Americans, working with hundreds of private sector partners.

Results in the form of hundreds of model bills introduced and enacted into law in every state in the nation.

That is the essence of ALEC.

AND if YOU do not believe in the ALEC philosophy of government
  Then too damn bad
  Then go to hell

Cause our ALEC legislators will force our ALEC government on you.
Cause what you want does not  matter
It’s the ALEC way or the highway.

What – you thought the US was a democracy – get real idiots!
This is not a democracy – this is a plutocracy
This is the United States of ALEC.

Nationwide - Covering ALEC's Butt or Their Own???

Got a plug from CMD this morning – which I very appreciated.

However, a review of ALEC materials by the "2old2care" blog, verified by the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD), revealed that a Nationwide employee received an ALEC award for corporate lobbyists and special interest group representatives four years ago.

BUT – I take issue with this statement from Nationwide in the CMD article.
Nationwide's current Director of Public Relations, Dace de la Foret, told CMD: "I spoke to Susan Valauri, and she confirmed that based on Nationwide's decision not to continue its affiliation with ALEC she resigned from her position as Private Sector Chair at ALEC prior to 2002. The 2008 award was for past service, and at the time she was not a member nor did she have any affiliation with ALEC."

You see – ALEC has been disingenuous for almost 40 years.
You see – IMHO – most ALEC members have been intentionally lying to the USA for almost 40 years.
You see - IMHO - the American Legislative Exchange Council is one of the most heinous, secretive, duplicitous, organizations to hit the US democracy - having hidden their agenda for almost 40 years.

So – when I re-read this in the CMD article:
Nationwide's current Director of Public Relations, Dace de la Foret, told CMD: "I spoke to Susan Valauri, and she confirmed that based on Nationwide's decision not to continue its affiliation with ALEC she resigned from her position as Private Sector Chair at ALEC prior to 2002. The 2008 award was for past service, and at the time she was not a member nor did she have any affiliation with ALEC."

AND I saw this in the CMD article:
Ms. Valauri received the award from ALEC, when it was led by Alan Bronson Smith. He was Nationwide's head of government relations from 1978 to 2002.  Smith not only represented Nationwide on ALEC's corporate "Private Enterprise" board a decade ago, but also a few years after leaving Nationwide he became the Executive Director of ALEC from 2008 to 2009.

And I think this again:

You see – ALEC has been disingenuous for almost 40 years.
You see – IMHO –most ALEC members have been intentionally lying to the USA for almost 40 years.
You see - IMHO - the American Legislative Exchange Council is one of the most heinous, secretive, duplicitous, organizations to hit the US democracy - having hidden their agenda for almost 40 years.

BECAUSE
I KNOW I have this 1996 ALEC Joint Board Meeting document on file:
COMMITTEE REPORTS Awards - Senator Rhoads stated that there has been a lot of discussion over the past few years that ALEC has been giving too many awards out and it is becoming less meaningful to get one . He said that the Committee recommends that no more than 18 awards be given out, with a breakdown as follows : Legislator of the Year, 5 ; Private Enterprise Leader of the Year, 3 ; Host Committee awards, leave up to those making the nominations ; Volunteer Staff Members, 2 . He added that nominations could be made by both chairs of each task force, one candidate for each award, the chairman of the Board of Directors could nominate one legislator and the chairman of the Private Enterprise Board could nominate one private enterprise member . He stated that the Awards Committee would provide its recommendations for these awards to the Executive Committee of the Board. He said that legislator and private enterprise awards would be limited to ALEC members only and that non-ALEC members could be awarded certificates of appreciation for advancing an ALEC issue. He added that no legislator or private enterprise member should receive an award more than once . He said that the criteria for receipt of a legislator or private enterprise member award should be work on a task force, work on behalf of the ALEC state delegation or work in leadership positions .

AND I KNOW  that
Valauri won “ALEC's "Private Sector Member of the Year Award"
NOT a certificate
AND I know she won it at the Annual Meeting in 2008 in Chicago

And I know in 2010 the American Legislative Exchange Council STILL REQUIRES award recipients to be MEMBERS
BECAUSE

"of a private-sector member of ALEC in good standing"

So somebody sure as hell isn't telling the truth

THUS  ...

I have a tendency NOT TO BELIEVE NATIONWIDE INSURANCE.

Who's butt are they trying to cover up
their own
or ALEC's
- after Moyers expose' on ALEC's corporate agenda?
(see Moyer's expose'  >>HERE<<< )

But I guess I'll put this Nationwide Insurance / ALEC fiasco to rest.
It's evident they Nationwide does not have any decent research analysts on their staff.
(BTW - all you have to do is check your payables for the past four years - idiots!)

I've found it is a waste of time to argue with sociopaths.
We will never be able to prove it
– either way and

I have other ALEC LIARS that I want to expose
 - too much time spent on this one as of right now.

Just goes to show -
You can't trust what an ALEC member tells you.
EVER!

ALEC Privatization - Lousy Services - Excellent Corporate Profits

Management revenue from our state partners increased to $215.8 million during the first quarter of 2012 compared with $213.8 million during the prior year period. State revenue increased primarily due to higher inmate populations from the state of Ohio

Total management revenue for the first quarter of 2012 increased to $434.2 million from $423.8 million during the first quarter of 2011. For the first quarter of 2012, CCA generated net income of $31.7 million, or $0.32 per diluted share, compared with net income of $40.3 million, or $0.37 per diluted share, for the first quarter of 2011

For the first quarter of 2010, CCA generated net income of $34.9 million, or $0.30 per diluted share, compared with net income of $34.6 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, for the first quarter of 2009. Total revenue for the first quarter of 2010 increased 2.7% to $414.9 million from $404.2 million generated during the prior year period, primarily driven by a 2.7% increase in average daily inmate populations.

Funds From Operations, which excludes maintenance and technology capital expenditures, increased to $84.6 million during the first quarter of 2010 from $83.3 million in the prior year quarter.

"I would say ALEC is a good investment.
Nowhere else can you get a return that high."

ALEC has been berry, berry good to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found this on Think Progress this morning:

An Ohio prison owned by Corrections Corporation of America, one of the largest private prison companies in the US, has failed to meet state standards in food quality, sanitation, hygiene, and many other areas, according to a recently concluded audit. In total, the CCA prison had 47 violations.

CityBeat details the abysmal conditions at the Ohio facility, the first privately owned state prison in the country:

Knowledge is YOUR FRIEND!!!!

ALEC
ALEC Privatization Philosophy
Private Prisons
Ohio
John Kasich
Correction Corporation of America (CCA)

KASICH AS ALEC
More than 30 years ago, a small group of state legislators and conservative policy advocates met in Chicago to implement a vision:

At that meeting, in September 1973, state legislators, including then Illinois State Rep. Henry Hyde, conservative activist Paul Weyrich, and Lou Barnett, a veteran of then Gov. Ronald Reagan’s 1968 presidential campaign, together with a handful of others, launched the American Legislative Exchange Council. Among those who were involved with ALEC in its formative years were: Robert Kasten and Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin; John Engler of Michigan; Terry Branstad of Iowa, and John Kasich of Ohio, all of whom moved on to become governors or members of Congress. Congressional members who were active during this same period included Senators John Buckley of New York and Jesse Helms of North Carolina, and Congressmen Phil Crane of Illinois and Jack Kemp of New York.

CCA AS ALEC
CCA has been a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) for over two decades and reportedly left the organization in 2011. [5]

Laurie Shanblum, the Senior Director of Partnership Development for CCA, was the corporate chair of the Public Safety and Elections Task Force during portions of the mid-to-late 1990s, and was a member of its Executive Committee circa July 2011. [5][6] Shanblum was also on that task force's Homeland Security Subcommittee.[7]

And I have posted many times on CCA – one entry was  in response to ALEC’s BLATANT LIE about not being associated with CCA.  You can read that entry  >>>HERE<<<.

ALEC KASICH and CCA and ALEC PRIVATIZATION PHILOSOPHY
Private prison companies have benefited from their relationships with government officials as evidenced by appointments of former employees to key state and federal positions. The pervasiveness of these connections is evidenced with the recent example from the Kasich Administration in Ohio.
After serving 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives John Kasich retired in 2000 and took a managing director position in Ohio with Lehman Brothers.  Lehman Brothers has a long standing history with private prison companies, spending most of the late 1990s and 2000s before their collapse underwriting bonds and managing credit for both CCA and Cornell.  After winning the governorship of Ohio in 2010, Kasich laid out his plans for privatizing state prison operations along with appointing a former CCA employee to head the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.  Rounding out Kasich’s connections to CCA is his close friend and former Congressional chief of staff whose lobbying firm was hired to represent CCA in January 2011.

The ALEC mantra - move everything to the states.
The ALEC mantra - privatize all government services.
Lousy state service - provided by ALEC "profitization" members.
Screwing over the taxpayers and citizens (all of us) of the USA
- becausetheycan
- becausetheyareALEC.

"An Ohio prison owned by Corrections Corporation of America, one of the largest private prison companies in the US, has failed to meet state standards in food quality, sanitation, hygiene, and many other areas, according to a recently concluded audit. In total, the CCA prison had 47 violations."

This is what the ALEC privatization experiment being forced on the USA by the American Legislative Exchange Council really looks like.
It's a sham!
It's a LIE!
It is ALEC.
It is all about providing increased revenue benefits for ALEC corporate profit sector members.

We MUST make sure
that ALL members of ALEC
are not elected or re-elected.

NEW YORK — The owner of Olive Garden and Red Lobster restaurants is putting more workers on part-time status in a test aimed at limiting costs from President Barack Obama's health care law.

Tsk - tsk
Darden Restaurants - member of the American Legisative Exchange Council  ...
I wonder which task force they worked on?
I wonder if they helped write the ALEC publication "A Legislators Guide to Repealing Obamacare"?

NOT THIS YEAR
For the second straight year that truth has once again been confirmed with FORTUNE magazine’s recognition of Darden as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" in America.
NOT THIS YEAR

I wonder if Mr. Bob McAdams

REMINDER: We DO NOT Know all the ALEC Legislators!!!!!

Found this tonight when surfing the web

Irritation does not even come close to the way I feel about this paragraph.

News21, a national journalism collaboration funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, found that “more than half of the state bills proposing photo IDs” came from legislators with ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council.

found that “more than half of the state bills proposing photo IDs” came from legislators with ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council.

HELL – they probably ALL came from ALEC legislators.
Why would I say that?

WE DO NOT KNOW who all the current ALEC legislators are!
Legislators hide their membership with the American Legislative Exchange Council.
ALEC hides the memberships of  legislators with ALEC.
WE DO NOT KNOW who all the current ALEC legislators are!

ALEC CLAIMS over 2,000 legislative members and we have NOT documented over 2,000 current legislators.
We have only documented a little over 1,000 legislative members of ALEC.

Sloppy reporting!
Misleading reporting!

The phrase should be
“suspect that ALL of the state bills proposing photo IDs” came from legislators with ties to the Aemrican Legislative Exchange Council.

We don’t know because ALEC is a deceitful, secretive organization that hides it’s member lists and many ALEC members have historically LIED about their involvement with the American Legislative Exchange Council.

REMINDER:
ALEC CLAIMS over 2,000 legislative members and we have NOT documented over 2,000 current legislators.
We have only documented a little over 1,000 legislative members of ALEC.
