Hughes (TX-ALEC) - Has No Shame

IMHO most ALEC-ers are liars - must be a prerequisite for membership.

So when I see an article like this - I have to stop and look for a moment.

Texas Republicans say ALEC hasn’t shaped their fiscal approach

AUSTIN — Seven GOP lawmakers have filed proposals to tighten the state’s spending cap and make it harder to raise taxes, two goals of a free-market-oriented group that urges business leaders and state legislators to collaborate on model bills for use in statehouses around the country.

While some of the lawmakers attend meetings of the American Legislative Exchange Council and many of the measures track the council’s longstanding prescriptions, five of the seven lawmakers on Thursday said the council didn’t influence their thinking.

Rep. Phil King, R-Weatherford, was alone in saying the council did influence him. The seventh, Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, couldn’t be reached.

He is one of two lawmakers who have proposed constitutional amendments to require a two-thirds supermajority in both chambers before state taxes can be raised. The other, Rep. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, said he’s not ashamed of the council, known as ALEC, though he wasn’t swayed by it on the issue.

“I’m proud of them, I’m not trying to distance myself from them, but I didn’t get this idea from them,” said Hughes, who has served on two of the group’s national task forces.

This shows you how immoral these people are

The have no shame that they are destroying our democratic republic – representation of, by, and for the people.

His (and others) dedication to the pro-business policies of the American Legislative Exchange Council – environmental de-regulation, elimination of citizens right for due process, along with privatization of government, and needless and vicious attacks on people right to collectively bargain, is shameful.

Not only should he be ashamed – he should be embarrassed and he should ask the public for their forgiveness.

This is what happens when you allow your legislators to attend ALEC meetings.

What they get from and what they give to ALEC corporate profit sector members – becomes more important than the public they are elected to serve.

They become narcissistic corporate servants - not public servants.

And that’s a damn shame!
