ALEC is “transparent”

This entry is going to have a lot of redundancy - cause in this case - redundancy is very important - cause I don't want anyone to miss the main point.

This mornings Google search is inundated with articles about how ALEC released their nasty legislation on their webpage – who cares!!!!

So what!!!
The Center for Media and Democracy  - ALEC Exposed – already had that information on their webpage for the public to review – because of a whistleblower action - not because ALEC was being "transparent".

The American Legislative Exchange Council releases legislation – BFD. They don’t deserve press coverage for this.

The ALEC press release should have been entitled:

Activists Have Already Proven ALEC is a Bunch of Losers 
So we Decided We Had to Release Something

Because of the multi-year success of activists  to Expose ALEC  

- ALEC was forced to do something 

- and this is the best they could do - really???  

What a bunch of  ...  

What better for ALEC to release – as “transparency”
their "model legislation"
– ALREADY available FOR YEARS on ALEC Exposed

– ALEC releases stuff already in the public venue 
– BFD
THAT - is not transparency.
THAT is playing the US public as chumps - fools - buffoons.
ALEC coulda just as well - given us the finger in their press release
    - it's basically what they did by "releasing legislation"
    - legislation that was already available to the public on ALEC Exposed.

ALEC released what was already out there for the public to see – NOT because ALEC released it – but because ALEC Exposed had ALREADY released it.

ALEC released “hundreds” of pieces of trackable legislation – really - this is supposed to impress someone - who?

There are already over 800 pieces of ALEC's nasty legislation on ALEC Exposed.

ALEC is being transparent? Not on your life.
ALEC released hundreds of "trackable legislation" on their webpage.

Yeh – why don’t you go look at the legislation on ALEC’s site so ALEC can put all kinds of trackers on your computer?  Sound like a hell of a deal.  Just what I want – some right wing extremist organization, linked to the Koch brothers, putting trackers on my computer.

But, this ALEC release could be a problem cause people who are ignorant of ALEC’s true intentions – will be reading ALEC's nasty legislation and thinking they know what ALEC is all about.

Let's review what ALEC is about:
The corporate financial benefits provided to ALEC corporations through ALEC "model legislation" may be achieved by
   Providing new revenue streams through privatization of government services
   Providing new revenue streams through the sale of the public commons to
       corporations for corporate revenue generation
   Providing reduced corporate costs through elimination of unions
   Providing reduced corporate costs through elimination of necessary regulation
   Increase corporate revenue streams and decreased corporate costs through
        the elimination of legal recourse against ALEC corporations for intentional
        and unintentional crimes against people - through products and services
        that harm and kill people.

People who are not "educated about ALEC",
are not aware of the ALEC bias to promote business profit and kill government that is endemic to the "model legislation" of ALEC; it's why ALEC exists - a bias repeatedly promoted as ALEC's core philosophies.


ALEC has had 40 years to be “transparent”.

They have chosen to be secretive for 40 years.

For 40 years ALEC had no intention of being “transparent”

Only now – after their legislation has already been transparent for two years on the  ALEC Exposed webpage – does ALEC post their nasty legislation on  their webpage.  Too little too late.

Let’s talk real ALEC transparency:

• Who are ALEC legislative members?
• Announce in the state houses when ALEC legislation is proposed – in whole or in part
• Publish which corporation actually wrote the legislation that is being sponsored by ALEC legislators.  Put their corporate logo on it – right next to the ALEC logo.
• Who is paying for ALEC legislators to take free trips.
• Publish a list of legislators who receive free trips from corporate lobbyists
• Publish the dollar amounts provided to state legislators – for free trips – paid for by corporate lobbyists
• Let liberal media into ALEC meetings
• Let liberal media into ALEC task force meetings

When ALEC was founded their intent was to establish a “shadow congress” – their words NOT mine – and they have succeeded for 40 years.  Releasing what is already in the public domain does NOT make ALEC “transparent”.
A "shadow congress" DOES NOT equate to anything close to "transparency". NFW

It is important to remember:
Most ALEC members are still hiding their memberships because they are embarrassed and ashamed to admit that they belong to this right-wing, ultraconservative, extremist, pro-corporate organization.

NOW – that is the true picture of ALEC “transparency”
