Being a woman - my first thought was about pregnancy leave - but this is much, much bigger than that.
Being that I have been in the workplace for a looooong time
Being that I have been in the workplace for a looooong time
I
know that women have a tendency to bank sick and vacation time in
advance of a pregnancy. They intentionally do not use up their paid
time off - so that when they go on maternity leave they receive a
certain amount of time where they are using paid time off at 100% of
their pay.
Then (if available) most go on short term disability at 60% of their pay.
Now ------- well, the whole issue of any kind of sick leave has taken a new and incredibly dangerous turn - and it doesn't surprise me that it has emanated in Michigan - the state trying the hardest to kill democracy.
Place: Gross Pointe MI
Topic: Teachers Contract
Contract Item
Sick time has been eliminated and teachers will each receive an "individual leave bank" of 10 days when they receive their normal rate of pay; those vested, or with the district for four years or longer, will be alotted 12 days for the next two school years and then be reduced to 10 for the remainder of the contractAfter the "individual leave bank" has been exhausted, teachers will be alotted an "individual roll bank" from which they can use days if necessary with a documented illness; use of these days require teachers to pay $120 per day of absence to reimburse the district for the cost of a substitute teacher regardless of whether a substitute is actually hired
Problem:
as of 2008 - 76% of K-12 teachers were women.
If you are a woman and you plan on having children.
Do NOT become a teacher in Gross Pointe, MI
You will have to pay - out of your own pocket - for a Sub to cover your maternity leave.
Even is no substitute is hired
One way to get women out of the workforce.
Who in the hell came up with this idea?
