Earlier this week I posted an entry where I question the numbers
that ALEC is putting out to the public.
In their press release for the meeting in Chicago ALEC state:
State Legislators, Business Leaders Meet in ChicagoChicago, Ill. (August 7, 2013)—More than 1,200 state legislators, business leaders, citizen groups and policy experts from around the country gather today in Chicago
Note that the statement of 1200 attendees includes:
legislators, business leaders, citizen groups and policy
experts
they forgot to mention spouses, kids, legislative staff
members and ALEC staff members
This morning I found an article on the National
Conference of State Legislatures, or NCSL.
In that article it states:
About 5,000 people attended the four day Summit in Atlanta. Of those, 1,000 are elected state legislators.
Ohhhhh- honesty in reporting.
1,000 were elected state legislators
So if you figure that 20% of the people at NCSL were
legislators – it would not be illogical to presume that the attendance of
legislators at ALEC was similar – 20%.
If you take ALEC’s original statement
More than 1,200 state legislators, business leaders, citizen groups and policy experts from around the country gather today in Chicago
20% of that would represent 240 legislators
Which, by the way – is the approximate number of legitimate, verifiable, original (not electronic) signatures that ALEC got on their rebuttal letter to
Durbin – after ALEC staff spent two days scrounging for signatures – at the ALEC 40th anniversary annual meeting.
Therefore – I feel confident in deducing

outnumbered ALEC legislative members by a number of 10 to 1.
The extremist pro-corporate American Legislative Exchange Council may claim 2,000 legislative members - but it is evident that from OKC and Chi that only 10% of their members are probably active.
Unfortunately for us - that 10% is the most extreme
Unfortunately for us - that 10% is the most extreme who pass corporate written legislation at ALEC meetings and make that legislation available for dissemination across the US.
Unfortunately for us - the other 90% are unethical plagiarizers who copy and paste ALEC corporate written legislation without impunity.
