ALECer CashAmerica - Goes from Storefont to Government

Well, well, well

This mornings gem made me think of Marie Antoinette's alleged response to the complaints of the poor and dispossessed on the eve of the French Revolution:
"If they have no bread, let them eat cake."
But first they have to find the cake.

or Barbara Bush's comment when she visited the tens of thousands of NOLA hurricane victims forced to live at the Houston Astrodome
And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.
All those underprivileged people
"responsible for their own situation"
so this is working very well for them

Well, well, well
Today's find - reflects the callousness of corporate culture at an ALEC corporate profit sector member.
Unfortunately, the vile attitude of an executive of this ALEC member - has become a state issue for Texas.

Democratic governor contender Wendy Davis is calling on William J. White to step down as chairman of the Finance Commission of Texas for saying people who take out payday loans are responsible for their own situations.

White, vice president of Cash America, should be an advocate for consumers on the state board but instead makes excuses for his own predatory industry, Davis said.

“William White can’t protect Texas consumers while he represents a predatory lending company on the side,” she said.

Cash America is a payday lender that was fined $19 million dollars by the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau last month for abusive practices.
White was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the post in 2011.
Just as a reminder - from 2010
Gov. Rick Perry today received the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) Thomas Jefferson Freedom Award at the group's 37th Annual Meeting.
Wonder if he met Mr. White at the 2010 ALEC conference.

It looks like being an ALEC corporate member has perks we didn't know about before.
Have to wonder - is this happening across the US?
Better check your state appointees - for ALEC corporate members.

Back to Wendy - - - -
She wants White to step down for saying :
"people who take out payday loans are responsible for their own situations".
"are responsible for their own situations."
All those underprivileged people
"responsible for their own situation"
Can't help wondering what that code means in true Republican speak - -
Guess there is no compassion in this ALEC member for "we the people"  - yet he's supposedly a "public servant"
“William White can’t protect Texas consumers while he represents a predatory lending company on the side,” she said.
First of all - - - White - isn't a "public servant" - he is an appointee - get real, his appointment was a payback.  He doesn't care about the citizens of Texas - his appointment gets him more power and more cash in his pocket,
more hurt for the citizens of Texas.
White, vice president of Cash America - that's his first and foremost responsibility.  Cash America has no desire to "protect Texas consumers".  All Cash America is worried about, like other ALEC corporate members,  is profit - the more, the better.
was fined $19 million dollars by the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau last month for abusive practices
Yep - I guess I would want a Vice President of that company running the state Finance Commission.
Probably no compassion in this ALEC member for "we the people" at the Finance Commission.
"abusive practices" - eh? -
Guess Cash America was being "responsible for their own situations" and resorted to whatever they needed to do to make a profit - the more the better.
But, remember - All Cash America is worried about, like other ALEC corporate members,  is profit - the more, the better.

ALEC corporate member
  • CashAmerica ("pawn loans and fast cash advances"[65]), "Vice Chairman" level sponsor of 2011 ALEC Annual Conference[20] ($25,000 in 2010)[21]
Scumbags of the world - belonging to the extremist, pro-corporate American Legislative Exchange Council - becausetheycan.

People are responsible for their decisions, just like in my life and in your life. When I make a wrong decision, I pay the consequences,” White said in the interview.
"We the people" - - need to pay the consequences for a wrong decision.
But probably Not White.
Not to worry - he won't lose his job with the state.
He'll step in front of a camera and do his mea culpas and all will be forgiven
because like coke snorting Tray Redel - this guys a Republican and god and the wing nuts forgive them for everything.
