Metcalfe (PA-ALEC) A REal Piece of NASTY

Today – Daryl Metcalfe of PA – made the news again – from the Nation:
METCALFE: I don’t believe any legitimate voter that actually wants to exercise that right and takes on the according responsibility that goes with that right to secure their photo ID will be disenfranchised. As Mitt Romney said, 47% of the people that are living off the public dole, living off their neighbors’ hard work, and we have a lot of people out there that are too lazy to get up and get out there and get the ID they need. If individuals are too lazy, the state can’t fix that.

Couldn’t stop but think what a nasty ALEC member this guy is – he is right up there with Russell Pearce of AZ (of SB1070 fame)  – in fact Daryl and Pearce are really good buddies.

Attacking the Constitution: State Legislators for Legal Immigration & the Anti-Immigrant Movement.Sections
Gay people are the "death knell" of America. The Confederacy fought for "individual liberties." One-world government, as predicted in the Book of Revelation, is around the corner. The federal government knew about the Oklahoma City bombing before it happened. President Obama is a secret Muslim and not an American citizen. The babies of undocumented immigrants are a "poison." State troopers should confine immigrants to special ghettoes. A federal agency has secretly built a series of concentration camps for patriotic Americans.

These are just some of the radical-right beliefs of a dozen leading members of State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI), a four-year-old organization that specializes in mounting legislative attacks on immigrants in states around the country. SLLI is now working feverishly to end the 14th Amendment's promise of birthright citizenship. Passed in the aftermath of the Civil War, the amendment guarantees that all persons born in this country and subject to its jurisdiction are citizens of the United States as well as the state in which they live.

And there is more
State Legislators for Legal Immigration is a coalition of anti-immigrant state-elected officials. As a partner of the John Tanton Network, a web of controversial anti-immigrant organizations orchestrated by John Tanton, State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI) was founded as a front group by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in 2007.

FAIR and John Tanton (a Petoskey, Michigan-based retired ophthalmologist) have a long history of working with and financially supporting far-right extremist groups and individuals with virulent anti-immigration agendas and ties to white nationalism. Despite its claims to represent the “mainstream” of the American anti-immigrant movement, FAIR’s history is far from benign.

In 1997, Tanton solicited and received $1.2 million from the white supremacist Pioneer Fund to build his anti-immigrant powerhouse, FAIR. The Pioneer Fund was founded to promote the pseudo-science called eugenics, which purports to show that African Americans are mentally inferior to whites because of their genetic makeup.

SLLI works hand-in-hand with the John Tanton Network to distort the issue of immigration and undermine America’s values of equality and liberty.

FAIR’s legal arm, Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), supplies “model” legislation for members of SLLI and has developed an “online model legislation clearing house” for state legislators. In a press statement, Pennsylvania state representative Daryl Metcalfe, the founder of SLLI, also acknowledged its "working partnership with the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI)."

Remember, Daryl Metcalfe – is an ALEC member.

And in 2010 and 2011 Daryl Metcalfe – was a member of the now defunct Elections and Public Safety Task Force.  The task force that brought us Voter ID, Kill at Will and SB1070.  ALEC has said they disbanded this task force – but the next day the chair of this task force said they just moved the duties and “model” legislation to different task forces – an ALEC slight of hand.

Metcalfe encourages state legislators to intervene in immigration issues, although Constitutional scholars have, for many years, said that immigration enforcement falls exclusively within the domain of the federal government.

And what better place to be able to do this - than an ALEC meeting.

And Tanton is still at it – but like ALEC covertly

After a front page Sunday New York Times expose investigating John Tanton’s racist ties and statements appeared in April of this year, Tanton quietly disappeared from FAIR’s board. When this came to light, FAIR claimed that Tanton had decided to leave the board in February, but the organization neglected to mention this little fact to Jason DeParle, the author of the expose. Tanton’s affiliation with the group he founded didn’t stray for too long, though. A few months after his name disappeared from FAIR’s board, he appeared on FAIR’s advisory board where he remains at the time of writing.

And Metcalfe is a focused little buttwipe.
In January SLLI stated their intent
State Lawmakers Convened in D.C. to Deliver Historic, Nationwide Correction to the 14th Amendment Misapplication
1/5/2011
Pennsylvania State Representative and State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI) founder Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler County), state lawmakers and Constitutional scholars from across the nation convened in Washington D.C. today to unveil historic model legislation to correct the monumental misapplication of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This historic press conference was held on the same day as the swearing-in of the 112th Congress; encouraging that one of the first actions should be to uphold their oath and defend the Constitution to protect the states from the illegal alien invasion.

“According to the 14th Amendment, the primary requirements for U.S. citizenship are dependent on total allegiance to America, not mere physical geography,” said Metcalfe. “The purpose of this model legislation is to restore the original intent of the 14th Amendment, which is currently being misapplied and is encouraging illegal aliens to cross and cost American taxpayers $113 billion annually, or nearly $1,117 yearly per individual taxpayer.”

Currently, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are crossing U.S. borders to give birth and exploit their child as an “anchor baby,” as a means to obtain residency, access taxpayer-funded benefits and steal American jobs for themselves and for their families.

In a news release from Friday, June 29th, Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, the founder of the Tanton Network’s State Legislators for Legal Immigration, was quoted as having said:
“There are no innocent illegal aliens because their very first step across the border is a criminal violation of federal immigration law. After that they must break law after law in order to survive, including, but certainly not limited to, committing welfare fraud and stealing jobs from taxpaying Pennsylvania citizens. Since the federal government remains AWOL in fulfilling its constitutional obligation to defend the states against foreign invasion, Pennsylvania state lawmakers have no choice but to stand together to advance the National Security Begins at Home package [...which] will serve as a significant economic deterrent to Pennsylvania’s illegal alien invasion.”

Harsh words, indeed, but Metcalfe has long been a bigoted fire-brand of the anti-immigrant far-right, one who never seems to shy from controversy. From underhanded uses of taxpayer money to a sprawling bigotry that includes constant derision of gays, Muslims and Latinos, Metcalfe has repeatedly proven himself not as a representative of the Pennsylvania people, but a relentless ideologue advancing a contentious agenda.

BUT – the scary part for all of us is:
May 16, 2012 9:30 am ET by Simon Maloy

On January 5, 2011, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, a group called State Legislators for Legal Immigration held a press event announcing their intention to change meaning of the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment, which has granted citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" ever since it was ratified in 1868. The group wants to force a reinterpretation of the amendment to prevent children of undocumented immigrants from obtaining citizenship, thus removing (in SLLI's view) an incentive for people to cross the border illegally.

Their primary weapon in this crusade is a model bill that says children must have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen (or resident alien) in order to be eligible for state citizenship.

Could you prove your ALL your ancestors came into this country legally?
Can you prove your grandparents were legal citizens?
Can you prove your great grandparents came into the US legally?.
If you cannot prove it - your entire family would be illegal immigrants, if this group gets their way.
CAN YOU PROVE IT?

Pennsylvania
Do you really want someone like this representing your beautiful state.
Someone so filled with hate and disgust for the rest of us?

PLEASE Do not re-elect this guy.
