ALEC's Being Picked On! Wa-Wa-Wa

I have said many times that the American Legislative Exchange Council has destroyed the concept of the free market – by the way it’s corporate profit members and ALEC legislators and alumni –  manipulate the market through ALEC “model legislation”.  But good ol’ ALEC continues to hold onto the fantasy that the free-market exists, even though ALEC has destroyed it.

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is the nation’s largest nonpartisan individual membership association of state legislators, with over 2,000 state legislators across the nation and more than 100 alumni members in Congress. ALEC’s mission is to promote free markets, limited government, and federalism throughout the states.

And then you have this little blurb off the web – which seemed so fitting for where I am about to go – using artistic license (of course)

Smith laid the intellectual framework that explained the free market and still holds true today. He is most often recognized for the expression “the invisible hand,” which he used to demonstrate how self-interest guides the most efficient use of resources in a nation's economy, with public welfare coming as a by-product

The invisible hand
Is having fun with ALEC right now

When the FREE MARKET works –ALEC get pissed off.
When THE PUBLIC – which are mentioned NOWHERE in the ALEC statement at the top of the page  – gets involved – ALEC get pissed off.

Here’s the latest snivel from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) for today.
Wonder which corporate profit member paid for the strategist that wrote this for them – Koch, or AT&T or State Farm, or  ...  one of the other 290+ members

Statement by ALEC on the Coordinated Intimidation Campaign Against Its Members

(Washington, D.C.) April 11, 2012—Ron Scheberle, Executive Director of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) issued the following statement today in response to the coordinated and well-funded intimidation campaign against corporate members of the organization:

ALEC is an organization that supports pro-growth, pro-jobs policies and the vigorous exchange of ideas between the public and private sector to develop state based solutions. Today, we find ourselves the focus of a well-funded, expertly coordinated intimidation campaign.

Our members join ALEC because we connect state legislators with other state legislators and with job-creators in their states. They join because we support pro-business policies that promote innovation and spur local and national competitiveness. They’re ALEC members because they’re more interested in solutions than rhetoric.

For years, ALEC has partnered with legislators to research and develop better, more effective public policies – legislation that creates a more transparent, accountable government, policies that place a priority on free enterprise and consumer choice, and tax policies that are fair, simple and that spur the kind of competiveness that puts Americans back to work.

At a time when job creation, real solutions and improved dialogue among political leaders is needed most, ALEC’s mission has never been more important. This is why we are redoubling our commitment to these essential priorities.  We are not and will not be defined by ideological special interests who would like to eliminate discourse that leads to economic vitality, jobs and fiscal stability for the states.

Ron Scheberle
Executive Director, American Legislative Exchange Council

Well – I certainly can not pass up this chance for opinionated rebuttal.
I guess a little rebuttal is in order.
A little personal opinion about ALEC. Most people will just report it –

Statement on the Coordinated Intimidation Campaign Against the Citizens of the United States by the American Legislative Exchange Council Legislative and Corporate Members

Becauseican-2old2care, ACTIVIST blogger against the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) issued the following opinion statement today in response to the coordinated and well- funded campaign by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to destroy the American democracy and representation of, by and for the people.

ALEC is an organization that promotes pro-business “model legislation” at the expense of the American public by attempting privatization of public services, de-regulation of policies that protect US citizens and our natural resources , and de-unionization of every state through right-to-work-for-less “model legislation”.  This anti-worker, anti jobs agenda is done through a vigorous exchange of ideas between the ALEC only - public and profit sector members  -  to develop pro-business “model legislation”  that the American public neither asked for nor wants.

Today ALEC finds themselves the focus of a GRASSROOTS coordinated campaign that exposes their nasty members and their nasty legislation and ALEC doesn’t like it – not one damn bit.

Legislators and profit seeking corporations join ALEC because they want to influence state and federal legislation. Basically,  ALEC serves NO OTHER PURPOSE.  Legislators and profit seeking corporations join because they support pro-business policies – YESSIREE!  They’re ALEC members because they’re more interested in pro-business legislation than anything else.

For years, ALEC corporate profit sector members have partnered with legislators to research and develop anad pass MORE and better pieces of profit driven pro-business “model legislation”.  Pro-business “model legislation “ that places a priority on increased profits through extremist  free enterprise philosophies, and tax policies that are developed and distributed to ALEC members and alumni through the assistance of ALEC member American for Tax Reform (aka Grover Norquist)., “Model legislation” that spurs the destruction of representation of, by and for the people; replacing it with a fascist type of philosophy that focuses solely on representation of, by and for the corporations.

At a time when job creation, real solutions and improved dialogue among political leaders is needed most, ALEC’s focus on the destruction of the American democracry can no longer be dismissed and ignored..  ALEC’s mission has never been more dangerous to our country and the people of the United States of America.

ALEC knows their mission and they are committed to their mission, at all costs.  ALEC will not be defined by logical, democratic focused special interests who would like to eliminate the ALEC private-public discourse that creates pro-business “model legislation” and increases corporate profits through the privatization of public services, de-regulation of policies that protect US citizens and our natural resources , and de-unionization of every state through right-to-work-for-less “model legislation”.

AND FOR THAT REASON ALEC MUST BE DESTROYED!
