WASHINGTON, April 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ron Scheberle, Executive Director of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), issued the following statement today in response to the support the organization has received in response to the intimidation campaign against its members:
"Over the last 24 hours, ALEC has been inundated with letters of support from elected officials, community leaders and concerned citizens in response to the intimidation campaign launched by a coalition of extreme liberal activists committed to silencing anyone who disagrees with their agenda.
Extreme Liberal Activists?
People for the American Way,
Center for Media and Democracy,
Progressive Change Campaign Committee,
CREDO Action,

Progress Now
You and me – Extreme Liberal Activists?
Probably not for most – but we are patriotic Americans, defending our Democracy and who are ensuring that ALEC doesn’t have the continued opportunity to destroy the representative government of, by and for THE PEOPLE and replace it with fascism – government of, by and for the corporations.
"I am thankful for the support and want to take this opportunity to remind people what we are facing:
Who is WE?
Are you covertly threatening the corporations that are thinking about dropping out – that they should rethink their position?
Who is WE?
"First, the people now attacking ALEC and its members are the same people who have always pushed for big-government solutions. Our support for free markets and limited government stands in stark contrast to their state-dependent utopia. This is not about one piece of legislation. This is an attempt to silence our organization and it has been going on for more than a year.
Really???

You are correct in the statement that this isn’t about “one piece of legislation”. It is about ALEC. It is about the heinous disregard that ALEC members and ALEC “model legislation” have toward the citizens of the United States.
"Second, ALEC is one of America's premier ideas laboratories when it comes to advocating free market reforms. We are a target because our opponents believe they have the opportunity to attack an effective, successful organization that promotes free-market, limited government policies that they disagree with. We work to promote the Freedom of Choice in Health Care initiative against ObamaCare's individual mandate. We support fair tax policies and tort reform. This is an all-out intimidation campaign designed to promote government-based solutions rather than the free-market principles that we have seen work.
Idea Laboratory? You have got to be f#cking joking! You are a BILL MILL – pushing out pro-corporate legislation faster than a cockroach spews out eggs.
Effective, Successful organization??? Depends on who you talk with and what you are talking about.
ü Effective at producing pro-business copy and paste “model legislation
ü Successful at building corporate profits through legislation.
ü Effective at destroying the environment and destroying people’s health and well being through de-regulation legislation.
ü Effective at disenfranchising 55 MILLION people from the voting booth and attempting to destroy the US democracy.
This is NOT an intimidation campaign to promote government based solutions and you know it!
This is a campaign to expose your damn a$$ so America can finally figure out why our country has gone to hell in a handbasket over the past 30+ years – becauseofALEC.
This is a campaign to expose your nasty legislation.
This is a campaign to expose your nasty legislators – that were referred to today as “circus monkeys”, serving corporate America.
This is a campaign to expose your nasty corporate profit members who only care about corporate profit and producing legislation that hurts the public for more corporate dollars for the shareholders and the CEO’s.
"Finally, now more than ever, America needs organizations like ALEC to foster the discussion and debate of policy differences in an open, transparent way and not fall back on bullying, intimidation and threats."
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is the nation's largest nonpartisan individual membership association of state legislators, with over 2,000 state legislators across the nation and more than 100 alumni members in Congress. ALEC's mission is to promote free markets, limited government, and federalism throughout the states.

NO - AMERICA DOES NOT NEED ALEC.
The ALEC corporatist/fascist philosophy of government at the state and federal level is NOT what Americans want or need.
Americans want a government of, by, and for THE PEOPLE.
Mr. Scheberle – you may have drank the Paul Weyrich (Moral Majority – I don’t want everyone to vote) cool-aid – but the majority of Americans have not.
I look forward to the destruction of your fascist organization.
