ALEC's Survival Requires An Ignorant Media

Looked at the title I picked for this a couple of days ago
ALEC's Survival Requires An Ignorant Media
and immediately thought about Breitbart.com
BB - ignorant media, yep

Where is their report from the ALEC meeting, they were allowed into the ALEC annual meeting as media - it still hasn't posted yet.

Heard from a reliable source that they BB was going to do a "slice and dice"- and do their version of "o'keefian editing" of the video from the ALECexposed and Better Utah press conference

REALLY???? REALLY???
BB thinks they have anyone - anyone - with that type of talent - HAH - NOT!!!!
Better call Rmoney's people - they know how to slice and dice video to make it say what it never said.

And the really sad thing  - really sad - about this - is that slicing and dicing a press conference against ALEC - isn't going to show ALEC LOVE - it's giving AlecExposed and Better Utah more press

BB can't even figure that out BB was allowed in the meeting to write ALEC LOVE, and they won't be invited back (they could have written about AE and BU without going to the ALEC meetings) - fools, just fools!!!  You're suppose to kiss the butts that feed you BB.

BB doesn't even know where to focus their energies - evidently the ALEC "legislative" gods will have to give BB better instructions next year.

But - that's not what this is about.

There was an article that came out on Sunday that is a treasure trove of information.  I have already used it for two previous posts and now this one.

This article is a treasure trove – because it shows how members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) lie to and manipulate the media.
The American Legislative Exchange Council depends on the ignorance of the media to spread disinformation about ALEC.
And the sad part is – as usual – the media just reports what they are told by ALEC members without trying to assess the accuracy of what they are being told.

As stated in the article, based on interviews with ALEC members:

ALEC provides "scholarships" to some legislators to cover their expenses, typically to recently elected legislators. In Tennessee, many travel at state expenses -- as they may for other national legislator-oriented groups such as the National Conference of State Legislators and the Council of State Governments.

Legislators say the other groups, however, do not develop "model legislation" that can then be pushed in their home states. Instead, they offer general information in workshops and perhaps sample bills of how states have addressed different issues. And there's another difference.

I want to take this apart paragraph by paragraph.

First
ALEC provides "scholarships" to some legislators to cover their expenses, typically to recently elected legislators.

ALEC provides "scholarships" to some legislators

“typically to recently elected legislators “
Neither of these phrases is truthful – if they were, why would PhRMa have put over $350,000 in the scholarship fund for Wisconsin - for SOME of the ALEC legislators, for "recently elected" legislators?????

If you review the by-laws of ALEC and actually read through the scholarship policy – you will see that ANY member may request a scholarship reimbursement.

Legislators say the other groups, however, do not develop "model legislation" that can then be pushed in their home states. Instead, they offer general information in workshops and perhaps sample bills of how states have addressed different issues. And there's another difference.
This should specify:
Legislators say the other groups (National Conference of State Legislators and the Council of State Governments) , however, do not develop "model legislation"  ...

Why am I so picky about this?
Because the NCSL ALEC comparison is so common - so when you try to expose that the comparison is incorrect - you have to be specific - cause right wingers have a problem with comprehension ( you have to be really clear for them).
And whenever speaking about legislation I have to stress that ALEC state legislators DO NOT write the majority of the ALEC "model" legislation.

review of the Common Cause documents prove beyond a reasonable doubt through the minutes of the task force meetings that the majority (almost ALL of it) of the ALEC legislation is NOT produced by state legislators, the legislation brought forward in an ALEC meeting is done so by the corporate profit and nonprofit sector members as is documented in a Daily Kos diary that was posted about a month ago.

Why do our public servants who are ALEC members continue to lie about their association with and the purpose of ALEC?

When will the media start realizing that the members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) lie to them with impunity?

When will the media wake up and realize that ALEC thinks that the media is to be used to spread disinformation about ALEC – to the benefit of ALEC.
