Iowa - Getting Screwed by Their ALEC Legislators

Oh, my…………
Iowa legislators - members of the extremist, right-wing American Legislative Exchange Council - screwing over Iowa citizens - becausetheycan.

Monday – right to work as a – constitutional amendment

21 Jan 2013 — 03:37 PM

The Iowa House of Representatives made its first priority clear last week, by offering up House Joint Resolution 1 (HJR1) copied straight from the playbook of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

HJR1 is a constitutional amendment that takes direct aim at Iowa's middle class, and it will be before committee this week.

Iowa is already a "right-to-work" state, putting middle and working class families at a disadvantage and making it more difficult to earn a decent living. Instead of focusing on creating jobs, strengthening our schools, or tackling any of the other issues facing our state, the House has made its first priority to put into the constitution a law that already exists.

Considering that in Iowa you have to “opt out” of an ALEC membership – yeh that’s right, they are automatically made ALEC members - it is not surprising that

All 53 Republicans co-sponsored HJR 1, an amendment to put the so-called “right to work” law into the Iowa Constitution.

This is unnecessarily partisan, divisive, and unnecessary.

Iowa’s “right to work” law has been in the Iowa Code since 1947. There is no need to add it into the Iowa Constitution.

But Iowa’s ALEC legislators didn’t stop there!!!!
They introduced KILL AT WILL
Yesterday State Representative Matt Windschitl introduced the controversial "Stand Your Ground" legislation, based on a model bill originally promoted by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

The bill, House File 57 (HF57), would allow Iowans to take a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality
