Whole Foods CEO says Obama healthcare law is 'more like
fascism'
The CEO of Whole Foods Market said President Obama's
healthcare law is more like "fascism" than "socialism," a
parallel he drew in 2009, to some backlash.
“The union is like having herpes.
It doesn’t kill you, but it’s unpleasant and inconvenient, and it stops a lot
of people from becoming your lover.”
(That quote, to Mackey’s dismay, won’t
go away, either.) His disdain for contemporary unionism is ideological, as well
as self-serving. Like many who have come before, he says that it was only when
he started a business—when he had to meet payroll and deal with government red
tape—that his political and economic views, fed on readings of Friedman, Rand,
and the Austrians, veered to the right
2009
He’s a union buster.
He believes that corporations
should not be criminally prosecuted for their crimes.
He has just launched a campaign to
defeat a single payer national health insurance system.
And he’s the CEO of Whole Foods.
Primo hangout of liberal
Democratic yuppies.
“We are all responsible for our
own lives and our own health,” Mackey wrote yesterday in the Wall Street
Journal. “We should take that responsibility very seriously and use our freedom
to make wise lifestyle choices that will protect our health. Doing so will
enrich our lives and will help create a vibrant and sustainable American
society.”

And on Friday Mackey — a longtime
denier of manmade climate change — told Mother Jones that warming temperatures
is “not necessarily bad”:
Contrary to what has been written about me I am not a “climate-change
skeptic.” Climate change is clearly occurring, and based on what I have read
global temperatures have increased about 1.5 degrees Celsius over the past 150
years.
We’ve been in a gradual warming trend since the ending of the “Little
Ice Age” in about 1870, and climate change is perfectly natural and not
necessarily bad.
A Whole Foods on the Upper West Side is under fire after the supermarket placed a chicken
advertisement featuring the face of President Barack Obama.
NBC reports the ad was originally
placed outside the Columbus Avenue
and 97th Street
location to promote a sale of organic chicken.
A resident voiced his concerns over
what he said was a racist display, and the store removed the advertisement.
A Whole Foods spokesman said the store
chucked the drawing "once it was brought to our attention by a shopper
that it may be perceived as
offensive."
