An article from CMD on the upcoming shooting event at the
ALEC annual meeting.
Three months after the American
Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) issued a PR statement that it was
eliminating its Public Safety and Elections Task Force, which was previously
led by the National Rifle Association (NRA), the NRA announced that it would still
be hosting its regular annual shooting event at ALEC's summer convention, in
Salt Lake City on July 28
The shooting event for ALEC
members is co-sponsored by the Browning Arms Company, a Utah subsidiary of the
global gun dealer Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal (FN Herstal), … One
of the Browning Machine GunsBrowning sells semi-automatic firearms and sporting
goods in the U.S. but it is perhaps most famous for its military machine guns,
such as the original Browning Automatic Rifle (the "BAR"), which has
been used in numerous wars.
ALEC also strongly opposed the
1994 "Assault Weapons Ban," which sought to prevent the U.S. sale of
semi-automatic weapons, similar to the notorious AK-47 -- a rapid-fire style
weapon that has been used in numerous mass murders in the U.S.
As Democracy Now! reported, at
last week's meeting of the NAACP, its leader Ben Jealous rejected ALEC's
efforts to avoid responsibility for its extreme gun policies saying, "the
blood of every adult and child who is wrongfully killed because of these laws
is on your hands."

And again from CMD – another excellent article about the
gun-wielding agenda t the American Legislative Exchange Council.
Barring Cities from Suing Gun
Manufacturers
1995 Kansas Co-Chairs for ALEC In
1995, after Koch Industries joined ALEC's board in the person of Michael M.
Morgan of its government affairs shop, ALEC issued its annual legislative
scorecard touting its success in having its model bills introduced or enacted
in state legislatures that spring. ALEC noted that its crime task force had the
most bills echoing the ALEC agenda introduced, 199 bills in all that year.
One of the bills highlighted by
ALEC in its legislative scorecard for 1995 was the "Consistency in
Firearms Regulation" Act. This bill would bar cities from enacting their
own gun regulations and would prevent cities from suing the gun industry. This
ALEC bill had passed in Georgia and Utah that year, and it had been introduced
in eight other states.
ALEC's bill expressly exempts
firearms sales at gun shows from its background checks (creating a "gun
show loophole"). It also exempts holders of "concealed carry"
permits from a background check, but the federal provisions attempt to protect
the public regardless of whether a person had previously obtained a permit to
carry a gun, such as fugitives and persons adjudicated to be mentally unstable.
In addition this, as I wrote earlier, ALEC is supporting
their gun wielding Corporate Profit Members by promoting Guns in Dorms.

firearms on campuses by individuals issued
valid licenses to carry concealed handguns.

While ALEC is meeting and pushing their gun agenda – you can
push your own agenda for a safer America.

As an American who was shocked and
horrified by the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado, I am committed to joining a
meaningful conversation about how we can prevent the future loss of innocent
life.
I appreciate the very appropriate
expressions of sympathy for the victims from both of you. However, I think anyone seeking the highest
office in our nation is responsible for doing more.
I am asking you to offer to the
American people specific solutions that will prevent tragedies like this from
continuing to happen in our nation — because, I firmly believe, we are:
SAY NO when you have a chance to
the proliferation of guns in the US.
Do it TODAY – and say no to the gun-wielding nuts at the American
Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Sign this petition <<<<HERE>>>>>

I don't believe in the gun lobby's
vision of armed and dangerous people legally carrying loaded and hidden
handguns in my neighborhood
This is ALEC legislation at the national level!!!
