Good news on the Chicago ALEC protest:
MAY BE participating
In the past week - if you Google"This is the video from the May ALEC protest rally in Oklahoma City.
"Watch the ALEC Is Not OK Rally"
480 union webpages are carrying this video.
I'm hoping this suggests at least one or two union sponsored rallies against ALEC during their 40th Annivesary Annual meeting in Chicago August 7 - 9.
First Notice of anything definitely happening at the ALEC 40th Annual Meeting in Chicago - August 7 -9
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) will be meeting in Chicago on August 7-9 at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel. ALEC connects corporate lobbyists with legislators behind closed doors to write "model legislation". This Legislation is then put on the floor of state legislatures across the country, without indication that it is an ALEC model bill. Put simply, corporations are writing state laws. That type of concerted effort in favor of profit between business interests and the state is NOT acceptable. ALEC's model bills include Right to Work (for less) laws, "Ag-gag" bills which brand environmental and animal rights activists "terrorists", Arizona's racial profiling law (SB1070), Wisconsin legislature's attack on public-sector collective bargaining, and so many others.
We invite the entire city of Chicago to join us for a loud, obnoxious demonstration outside of the Palmer house. Bring drums, banners, trumpets, signs, whistles and everything in between. The noise demo will only be part of the day's events. Affinity groups will be performing their own actions on the day. The aim is for the action to be non-violent. We understand the logical instincts of self defense, though we ask that our comrades not initiate physical confrontation, as it may increase the risk on others in the group. We will NOT tolerate any collaboration with state enforcers (Cops, Private Security, etc.), regardless of which actions have been taken.
We invite Radicals, Environmentalists, Indigenous activists, Animal-Rights activists, Immigrants, Rank and file workers and Students from all over the world to oppose ALEC's agenda of state repression, austerity, exploitation, xenophobia and corporate supremacy. If ALEC member cannot hear themselves think, they cannot legislate our lives behind closed doors.
Make some noise, Raise some hell and make sure ALEC never returns to the working class city of Chicago.
