DC AFL-CIO - Promotes ALEC Education

The DC Council is promoting an event by Progressive Maryland for their members.
This is a very good thing.

Film: The United States of ALEC
Where
Howard County Library Central Branch; 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia
When
Jun 24    7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join Progressive Maryland and Common Cause Maryland for a special screening of Bill Moyers' acclaimed film about corporate control of our laws and legislatures and how we can take back our government.

Too few people have heard about ALEC, or the American Legislative Exchange Council. But this is a group that everyone should know about! Come watch the astounding Bill Moyers documentary and get a detailed look at what ALEC is and does.

ALEC calls itself a "nonpartisan public-private partnership," but this is a case of false identity. Actually ALEC is an organization that writes "model legislation" on a variety of topics that its member legislators use in state after state, including Maryland, to make new laws. These attack labor rights and promote corporate interests and privatization in every part of American life: education, health care, the environment, voting rights - you name it.

Hopefully they will be sending members to
Chicago
August 7 - 9
ALEC Annual Meeting
ALEC 40th Anniversary

And as the unions in Oklahoma City put it - when they rallied against ALEC in May:

And if you miss the event on the 24th or can't make it
Progressive Maryland is hosting another viewing on the 27th
