House Bill 683, the "Commonsense Consumption"bill, would also prohibit people from filing "frivolous lawsuits" against food manufacturers or packagers for obesity, weight gain or health issues related to consumption of their products.

The bill is model legislation promoted by pro-business advocacy group American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC

Folks this bill is NOT about obesity or weight gain
When they introduced it in Minnesota - the ALEC legislators referred to it the "Cheeseburger Bill" and linked it to obesity.

It is about protecting ALEC food manufacturers or packagers from lawsuits due to foodborne illnesses
E-coli
Salmonella

And protecting ALEC food manufacturers or packagers from lawsuits about
GMO food served
Horse meat instead of beef
Rat meat instead of beef

State legislators of the American Legislative Exchange Council protecting corporations by stripping away consumer rights to legal recourse.
